Welcome to our 58th annual Gymnastics Association of Texas Conference.   Look around, as we have attendees from not only Texas but from Louisiana, Colorado, Utah, Oklahoma and California.  Take time to introduce yourself to your fellow coaches that you may not know.  Afterall, that is how GAT started all those years ago....it was a GAThering of like-minded gymnastics educators.

Please take the time to create your own unique schedule of sessions you are wanting to attend this weekend. This is also the best way to get the most up to date schedule should things change or should announcements need to be sent out to our attendees.

We are thrilled to announce our exclusive equipment partnership with SPIETH America, bringing together our expertise to elevate gymnastics education and training. This collaboration marks a historic milestone for both organizations as we join esteemed industry partners. As the Gymnastics Association of Texas (GAT), known for our comprehensive gymnastics education programs, we will now have access to SPIETH America’s cutting-edge equipment and educational resources, including sessions on Parkour and NCAA Acro and Tumbling. Together, we are dedicated to fostering growth, innovation, and safety within the gymnastics community.

If you have any questions about anything during the weekend, don’t hesitate to see one of us at the downstairs registration desk. Let us know what you like or areas where we can improve our service to you.

A lot of planning has gone into this conference, so we hope you have a wonderful weekend of great gymnastics education!

Pyramid of Performance: building a resilient athlete from the ground up to THRIVE & Survive!
Saturday August 31, 2024 8:30am - 9:30am CDT
Freedom of movement and variability in movement are key to thriving in gymnastics. One
of the greatest contributors to injury is training in only plane of movement. The ability to
have a large continuum of movement ranges and control creates space for athletes to
survive when making mistakes. It creates more room for error, setting them up to succeed.
This session will be an experiential approach to learning to move in various ways, thinking
outside the box. You will get to assess and perform movements to improve your athletes’
movement approaches and challenge their systems.

To Brace or Not to Brace: Bracing helpful or harmful?
Saturday August 31, 2024 9:45am - 10:45am CDT
We will bust all the myths about bracing! Wait bracing causes my athlete to be weak….RIGHT?!?!? Teaser: proper bracing with the proper issue can make your athlete STRONGER! There is evidence that the use of tiger paws promotes poor biomechanics, decreased weight bearing tolerance, diminished performance and can contribute to increased pain.  We will discuss: When is bracing appropriate? Who should brace? In what situation to brace? What brace to use for the most common issues (Ankle, knee, back, wrist)?  How to know a brace is helpful, simple tests for the athlete to do to see if a brace is needed and best for them? When to stop using a brace?

Tough Parent Conversations
Saturday August 31, 2024 9:45am - 10:45am CDT
We've all been there: a confrontation out of leftfield, a blowup in the lobby, and what we thought was a check-in turned into an interrogation. Working with young people and their parents can be a challenge. Even if we're proactive and doing things right, we end up in situations where communication is critical.

We will examine best practices for communicating in these stressful situations, learn to listen effectively, and lead a conversation to a productive result.

Given time we may even discuss complex topics you're facing and share some insights.

Understanding Perfectionism
Saturday August 31, 2024 4:00pm - 5:00pm CDT
Believe In Me
Training the female gymnast requires patience, love, caring, and overall perseverance in developing their whole being.
Females, more than males, have perfectionism traits that need identification and addressing at a very early age.
Perfectionism is a little known behavioral trait, so understanding the female gymnast, and their unique needs, will make us better coaches and educators.

• ANY facility can afford a “Wellness Team”…just needs a little planning and dedication
This lecture will cover all the details necessary to create a customized "Wellness Team" including a budget, how to find these professionals, choosing the best ones once found, forms for all the experts, setting up a "Wellness Calendar" and much more. A multiple-card handout is provided.
